Sitting atop a hill in Bridgeland this residence appears simple in form, with details alluding to the complexity within. Envisioned for a car enthusiast, the design considers several requirements. Along with spaces for comfortable living, he also required storage and workspace for his many vehicles. This posed a challenge on this 25’x120’ laneless parcel.
The 2500 ft2 residence is designed around a central stair that bisects the form perpendicularly. This creates a split-level layout offering a unique departure from typical linear infills. The third floor includes a three-season solarium, sauna, and rooftop patio. A yard at grade separates the primary residence from a 650 ft2 backyard suite.
Entering through an unassuming single-car garage door, a journey subgrade begins through the activation of a car lift. Passengers are transported below to an expansive space that extends to much of the site area. Vehicles occupy three tandem bays with the final bay equipped as a shop, complete with secondary lift to facilitate work.
