In the words of the Aboriginal Friendship Centre of Calgary (AFCC): All Friends Place, or in Blackfoot, Kanakaat’sinom, is a safe, ethical space where AFCC’s Elders can strengthen community, hold ceremony, access supports, and share knowledge amongst one another and across generations.
A remodel of an existing space, this interior renovation utilizes culturally significant materials, shapes, and textures to create a space that reflects the community it serves. Large indoor planters containing an array of local and exotic greenery, have been incorporated into furniture pieces or used as dividers between programmed spaces. While in the kitchen area, the installation of a hydroponic growing station enables the occupants to grow herbs and vegetables used in the preparation and cooking of community meals.
