The Westwood Women’s Centre offers housing to 13 Catholic female students and provides a family environment. Residents participate in educational programs to develop personal, spiritual, and professional lives. The activities unfold within spaces that range from residential to spiritual.
The architecture incorporates a transitional aesthetic that combines both contemporary and traditional sensibilities using pitched roofs and durable, high-quality materials. The overall massing has been broken up to reduce the perceived scale and ensure contextual sensitivity within the surrounding neighbourhood. Internal public spaces address frontages with an interesting and welcoming presence. Private spaces are slightly subdued while still maintaining community connection with outward views. A central Oratory extends into the rear yard, surrounded by lush landscaping to facilitate a spiritual connection with the natural environment.
